Win a Signed Burton Morris Print!
The Woodland Hills Foundation is having a raffle for a signed Burton Morris Print as part of an Alumni Art Sale that has been added to the District Art Show this year.  Mr. Morris, who is a Churchill graduate, graciously donated this poster in support of the Arts in Woodland Hills. Tickets can be purchased at the Art Show during Art Show hours. The winner will be drawn at the end of the Alumni Cabaret on Saturday, May 15, 2010. In addition to the raffle for the Burton Morris Poster, there is also a Silent Auction for Alumni Art work. Various Woodland Hills Alumni Artists, alumni art teachers and current art teachers have donated works of art that are being sold via a silent auction throughout the Art Show. Bids can be placed during Art Show hours with the bidding closing just prior to the Alumni Cabaret on May 15.

Woodland Hills Foundation Hosts the Alumni Cabaret
Come to see Woodland Hills' prestigous alumni and re-live the award winning musicals as they come back on stage for the 5th Annual Alumni Cabaret May 15th at 7:30pm at the Braddock Carnegie Library Music Hall. The library is located at 419 Library Street in Braddock, PA. Foundation Holds Fourth Annual Red Carpet Gala
The Woodland Hills Foundation will host its fourth annual Red Carpet Gala fundraiser Thursday, April 29, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The evening begins with a pre-show reception at D'Imperio's Restaurant in Wilkins Township. Following the reception, patrons will proceed to the Woodland Hills High School musical production of "Annie."

Tickets are $30 each or two for $50. Patrons also enjoy reserved parking at the high school. Tickets can be purchased by contacting Foundation Board Member Karen Stein.

Julie Anne McCool Memorial Scholarship for the Arts & Humanities
In addition to the WHF Senior Scholarships, thanks to a generous donation from the Tom and Maria McCool family, the Foundation also awards the WHF Julia Anne McCool Memorial Scholarship for the Arts & Humanities, a scholarship for those looking to continue their education in music, art, performance, liberal arts or humanities. More information and the application itself are below.

ELIGIBILITY: Open to all seniors who will graduate in 2010 from Woodland Hills High School who will continue their education in music, art, performance, liberal arts or humanities. Preference will be given to those continuing their education in music or art.

AWARDS: One scholarship. The amount has not yet been determined.

CRITERIA: Award will be based on scholarship application, completion of an original essay and an optional sample of creative work.

APPLICATION PROCESS: Your application packet (consisting of a completed application form, essay and optional creative work CD or DVD) must be submitted in a sealed envelope clearly marked "2010 Julia Anne McCool Memorial Scholarship." Submit your application packet in one of the following ways:
  • Deliver your application to the high school guidance office.
  • Mail your application to the Woodland Hills Foundation, P.O. Box 321, Turtle Creek, PA 15145, or P.O. Box 485, Braddock, PA 15104, Attn: Scholarship Committee
  • Online submission of application and essay at the WHAF Web site. NOTE: If you submit the application online, any optional enclosures and the last page containing signatures must still be delivered by the same deadline to WHF via the guidance office or mail.
The submission or postmark deadline is Wednesday, March 31, 2010.

OTHER GUIDELINES:
  • WHF reserves the right to change the number and/or amount of the award, as well as to not award a scholarship if applicants do not meet the criteria or expectations of our selection committee.
  • Financial need is not a consideration.
  • Children of WHF Board of Directors are not eligible for awards.
  • The scholarship will be presented at the 2010 Senior Academic Awards Dinner.
  • Applications become property of the WHF and may be used to promote the mission of WHF and the Woodland Hills School District. Photos of winners may be used in local and/or school district publications and Web sites.
  • The scholarship recipient must present proof of acceptance to a post-high school program before payment can be made. The award will be paid directly to the student's chosen school.
  • Scholarship funds may be used for tuition, room and board, and other fees.

Woodland Hills Foundation Scholarship
Woodland Hills Foundation is proud to award scholarships to seniors who are pursuing post-secondary education at other than four-year colleges. Read below about the Scholarship:

ELIGIBILITY: Open to al seniors who will graduate in 2010 from Woodland Hills High School and who will continue their education in a vocational, technical, or (non-four-year) educational program that has a diploma, certificate, or Associate's Degree upon completion (e.g. nursing, computer, technical, business, culinary, trade schools, community or junior colleges).

AWARDS: WHF will award a minimum of two (2) $750 scholarships.

CRITERIA: Awards will be based on a scholarship application. Thoughtful and sincere answers to the questions posed in the application will be the basis for selection for these awards. All questions most be answered completely. Scholarship applications will be available from any Technology Education teacher as well as the guidance office. Applications can also be downloaded from the WHAF web site, whaf.info.

SUBMISSION: Please deliver the completed application to the high school guidance office. Enclose it in a sealed envelope clearly marked "WHF Senior Scholarship." The submission deadline is March 31, 2010. Completed applications may also be mailed to the Woodland Hills Foundation, PO Box 321, Turtle Creek, PA 15145, or PO Box 485, Braddock, PA 15104, Attn: Scholarship Committee.

The mailed applications must be postmarked by March 31, 2010.

OTHER CRITERIA:
  • Children of WHAF Board of Directors are not eligible for awards. Students pursuing a four-year bachelor's degree are also ineligible.
  • Winners will be awarded at the 2010 Senior Academic Awards Dinner
  • Applications become property of WHAF and may be used to promote the mission of WHAF and the Woodland Hills School District. Photos of winners may be used in local and/or school district publications and Web sites.
  • Students must present proof of acceptance to a post-secondary program, and the award will be paid to that student's chosen school.

The Chocolate and Diamonds Affair

The Woodland Hills Foundation invites you to a new fundraising event...The Chocolate and Diamonds Affair! There will be dinner, cocktails, silent auction and a chance to win a diamond and other precious jewels...and of course, lots of Chocolate!

Art Teacher Wins Diamond at WHF Chocolate and Diamonds Affair
Art Teacher, Bethany Wagner, was the lucky winner of a diamond necklace at the Woodland Hills Foundation's First Annual Chocolate and Diamonds Affair. Five lucky winners got a chance to try a key to unlock the treasure box that held the diamond.

DEUCE (A Woodland Hills icon documentary)

The legend of DEUCE is told in a captivating documentary by Joe and Mark Graziano, a pair of Pittsburgh natives who follow Deuce Skurcenski from getting his weekly flattop cut at the local barbershop to rubbing elbows with Bob Huggins at the ABCD Basketball Camp and includes testimonials from Pitt football coach Dave Wannstedt, Steelers play-by-play announcer Bill Hillgrove and former Pitt basketball star turned NBA player, DeJuan Blair.

Come and see a special screening of DEUCE on Sunday March 21st at the SouthSide Works Cinema at 7:30pm and a portion of the proceeds will be shared with the Woodlnad HIlls Foundation!! Checkout the DEUCE Trailer.
