Home Depot in Wilkins Township donates materials to benefit WHSD residents

On June 17, 2009, the Home Depot in Wilkins Township donated three pallets plus of materials to the WHSD Foundation. The retail amount of this donation was $1,326.27. The donations included home improvements supplies such as window fans, mulch, hose reels, flooring, wall brackets, shower doors, toilet seats, bathroom sinks, hinges, hacksaws, etc. The exciting news is that this is the only the first of many donations that Home Depot will be making through the arrangements of the WHSD Foundation. The first delivery was made with the assistance of the Turtle Creek Municipality workers who used borough trucks to pick up and deliver the goods to a storage area in Turtle Creek for distribution to District residents.

The Home Depot project started when Dr. Steve Gough, the president of the WHSD Foundation Board of Trustees, met with the store manager to ask if the company would donate some plants and trees to the School District. One of the goals of the District is to beautify the District’s properties and campuses. The manager
explained that Home Depot has a weekly donation program where the company donates everything they are going to discard that week to local non-profits. Dr. Gough continued to pursue this opportunity and decided to apply for the “Framing Hope Project Donation Program.”

“Framing Hope” is a Home Depot program that donates building supplies, materials and assorted household and cleaning items to organizations. The products must be used for charitable purposes and in support of the homeless, youth and senior housing; civic and cultural issues; community rebuilding; or other similar projects. All of the donations must be distributed within the United States.
